5 Fun Things to do in San Antonio

Aug 31 , 2011

People of all ages, regardless of their interests, are bound to find fun things to do in San Antonio. History buffs will love to visit the Alamo, for instance, while the children will be awe struck by the animal attractions. Visitors and residents alike are sure to find something to occupy their time.

1. Remember the Alamo!

During the Texas Revolution in 1836, General Antonio López de Santa Anna and his troops killed all but a handful of the individuals defending the Alamo. This angered Texas soldiers and residents, and cries of “Remember the Alamo!” could be heard during a pivotal battle in which the general was defeated.

Today, the Alamo is still a source of pride for most Texans. Visitors can explore the old mission and visit a library and museum located in the old barracks. By far, the Alamo is the most famous of all the fun things to do in San Antonio. This attraction is located on the east side of the Alamo Plaza, right in the heart of the city.

2. Take a Walk on the Wild Side

The San Antonio Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the country. It is located on several acres of land, and it is home to hundreds of different species of animals. Adults and children both will be awestruck by the fun things to do in the San Antonio Zoo.

A recreated tropical habitat is home to many different species of rainforest animals, and the African habitats will make you feel like you're on the African plains. Kids are able to get down and dirty in the petting zoos and other children's exhibits. For lunch, you can stop at any one of the restaurants in the park.

3. Pet a Whale

If marine wildlife is more your thing, Sea World San Antonio is the answer. It is home to whales, dolphins, stingrays, sharks, and alligators. Not only is this the home of several species of animals, but Sea World has several other fun things to do in San Antonio as well.

Visitors have a chance to watch amazing shows, featuring the world famous orca, Shamu. You can also have the chance to interact with some of the marine wildlife. When you're done watching the animals, you can take a ride on a roller coaster or slide down a giant water slide.

4. Visit Three Attractions in One

When you're looking for fun things to do in San Antonio, consider visiting three different attractions in one. Located in the Alamo Plaza, the Ripley's Haunted House, Guinness Records Museum, and Tomb Rider 3D attraction are an excellent value.

The Ripley's Haunted House is thought to be one of the more scary fun things to do in San Antonio. During the walk through the house, you will be terrified by actors, and realistic animatronics and props. In the Guinness World Records Museum, you will learn about some of the most amazing world records. You can even see how tall you are compared to the world's tallest man. The Tomb Raider 3D adventure will take you on an interactive ride through an ancient cursed Egyptian tomb. You can choose to participate in one, two, or all three of these attractions.

5. Take a Ride on a Water Taxi

If you'd rather not walk to enjoy the San Antonio River Walk, take a river taxi instead. These colorful boats run up and down the San Antonio River all day. These rides may be one of the more relaxing fun things to do in San Antonio.

You have the option of purchasing one way or round trip tickets to ride these taxis. You can also purchase a day pass, which entitles you to unlimited rides all day. While you are more than welcome to just sit back and enjoy the ride, you can also get off at one of the several stops that these boats make. Taking a river taxi will often result in you finding even more fun things to do in San Antonio!
