The 5 Best San Antonio Bars

Aug 31 , 2011

Whatever your outlook on life, one truth remains - relaxing is not difficult when you're sipping your drink of choice in a friendly atmosphere. If you're looking to have a drink with friends or you're looking to make new ones, the San Antonio bars have just what you're looking for.

Esquire Tavern

This little hole in the wall is located along the San Antonio River Walk on East Commerce Street, and it is the oldest operating tavern in Texas. Although it is nothing fancy, like some other San Antonio bars, it can be a fun and entertaining place to unwind.

It may not look like anything special, but looks can be deceiving. The drinks at this establishment are relatively inexpensive. A jukebox in the corner and the other patrons are there to keep you company.

Bar America

No frills and no fuss here, just a good ol' American bar. Located on South Alamo Street, this bar brings back memories of a time when men were men and shots were drank straight. While some other San Antonio bars are popular because of their themes and hip décor, Bar America is popular because of its lack of these gimmicks.

The simple décor of the place is rather quaint and relaxing, and the drinks are cheap. While your bartender may not be able to whip up the more exotic drinks, the beer is cold and the mixed drinks pack a nice punch.

Dave & Buster's

Not looking to completely relax? Then give Dave & Busters a go. Located on Crossroads Boulevard, this is more than just another one of your typical San Antonio bars. It's also a restaurant, arcade, and pool hall, a veritable Chuck E. Cheese for big people, if you will.

While most San Antonio bars have one happy hour each day, Dave & Busters has two, including a late night happy hour. You can also play arcade games while you sip on your beer, mixed drink, or frozen concoction. Happy playing!

Flying Saucer

Located on Huebner Road, the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium offers a relaxed atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor sitting areas are available.

Of all the San Antonio bars, this is a beer lover's paradise. The Fly Saucer has hundreds of different beers from around the world for your enjoyment, and many of the beers served are from local breweries.

VBar

Named the Best Hotel Bar by San Antonio Magazine, the Vbar is located in the Hotel Valencia along the San Antonio River Walk. The atmosphere here is a little more sophisticated than in other San Antonio bars, and descriptions like swanky and chic come to mind.

To enter the bar, you must first pass through a metal chain curtain. You can then choose to sit in one of the indoor or outdoor semi-private seating areas. The terrace also offers a spectacular view of the River Walk, and a DJ is on duty Friday and Saturday nights.
